What Murmur stores, and where
Recordings, transcripts, speaker labels, voiceprints, summaries and tasks are saved only in Murmur's storage on your iPhone. The developer has no servers and never receives them. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, Murmur's data is included in that backup like any other app's, under Apple's control and your settings.
How your recordings are processed
- Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition (SpeechAnalyzer). Audio isn't sent to Apple or anyone else.
- Speaker recognition runs on device with open-source models. Your voiceprint is a list of numbers describing your voice; it stays on your iPhone and you can delete it in Settings.
- Summaries and tasks are written by Apple Intelligence's on-device model.
Network use
Murmur connects to the internet only to download models once: iOS downloads the speech model from Apple, and Murmur downloads its speaker-recognition model from Hugging Face. These downloads don't include any of your data, though, like any web request, the servers see your device's IP address. Murmur has no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record when you ask it to.
- Reminders: only when you tap Add to Reminders or turn on automatic adding, to create reminders from your tasks.
Children
Murmur doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices
Delete any recording in the app, delete your saved voice in Settings, or delete the app to remove all of its data from your iPhone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
